This previously-completed-yet-unreleased underground gem finally sees the light of day in 2025 in a beautiful new lathe-cut vinyl edition!
Subtropics is a collaborative effort between New Orleanian Post-K DuMarais (a.k.a. Flip Perplexor/Crawfish Man) and Nashvillian Timezone LaFontaine. Following their serendipitous meeting thousands of miles from their respective hometowns in Olympia, Washington, the two Southern culturenauts began playing together in various live groups and recording projects. When both artists moved back down South, they resolved to continue to collaborate on a new project: Subtropics.
The album's release was thwarted repeatedly by a series of disasters large and small over the course of years, beginning with the arrival of Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. This new vinyl edition features liner notes originally written in 2006 as well as updated liner notes from 2025, to paint the full picture of the story behind the story told by the songs themselves.
