2026.08.01 — Now available on vinyl, "The Slink" remastered. Originally released in 2008 in a handmade pop-up container with an accompanying zine and stickers, it was later re-released on CD-R in 2014. Featuring Blandow Charismium, Scream Club, Sloe-T and Seed Verb on guest vocals, "The Slink" has a cool minimalist vibe with lots of live bass guitar and sparse drum beats.

2026.07.13 — We recently lost our great friend and collaborator Philip Gilmore following his battle with cancer. A native New Orleanian, we were fortunate to cross paths in Olympia, WA where he came onboard with our crew of underground artists and musicians disguised as food service workers. Known variously as Flip, Crawfish Man, Perplexor, and Post-K DuMarais, he was a soulful multi-instrumentalist playing in the live band The Bhindis and in the recording project South Sound Underground. Following this, he co-founded the Foote Street Soul Revue with Todd "360" Loos and put on two unforgettable annual live speakeasy juke joint events. In the second year, Philip took on full organizational duties as band director, providing arrangements to the band as well as absolutely nailing the vocals on the cover of the Meters' classic "Be My Lady." After graduating and returning to New Orleans, Philip and I kept in touch and visited each other periodically as we developed our collaborative project, Subtropics. He elevated every project he was involved in with positivity and soul. I'm thankful for his insights into our shared cultures, his understated and incisive wit, his example of perseverance and resilience, and his friendship through the years.

2025.10.16 — Test cuts for both Subtropics and TZLF "On the Move, Searching All the Time" have arrived and they sound great! We're on track to release these by the end of October! I'll be back with links in the next week or so.
2025.09.18 —Coming soon, a very cool underground punk dub project that was originally intended to be completed in 2005: Subtropics. A collaboration between Post-K DuMarais (alias Crawfish Man, Flip Perplexor, etc. of South Sound Underground, the Foote St. Soul Revue, and the Bhindis) and Timezone LaFontaine, Subtropics is a project that was initiated when they each returned to their places of birth: New Orleans and Orlando, respectively. The arrival of Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005 put the nearly-completed album on hold, and subsequent disasters large and small prevented its eventual completion and release... until now!
Through spoken word poetry, singing, and finely crafted dub and hip-hop instrumentals, Subtropics tells a story of returning to one's homeland and seeing it anew. Now mastered for lathe cut vinyl and presented in a beautifully-illustrated new jacket and sleeve, you've got to check out Subtropics when it lands in October!
2025.09.01 —Just a quick note to say I've received the test cut of "On the Move, Searching All the Time." I was kind of bracing myself for something with mediocre sound quality, but I'm psyched to report that, to my ears, the frequency response is excellent!
Now I'm not the kind of dude to spend $5000 on a record player stylus but I have been DJing and playing vinyl records for quite a while. The short summary is that the main difference is these lathe cut records are slightly quieter than a pressed vinyl record. For example, on my mixer I typically set the Gain knob to 5 (on a scale of 0 to 10). For this lathe cut, I turned up the Gain to 7. Aside from that, the entire frequency spectrum sounds very good to me, with no additional surface noise coming through — and "On the Move" is an album that has a very wide range of instrumentation from live bass and guitars to beats, samples, scratching, and synths.
Some time soon I'll see about setting up a live stream and play directly off the vinyl, for anyone who wants to check it out! In the mean time I'm stoked because it means I can continue to move forward, preparing the site for the release of "On the Move" in October — and with more remastered reissues and new releases on vinyl.
2025.08.19 — The Timezone LaFontaine instrumental album "On the Move, Searching All the Time" is being lightly remixed and remastered for a reissue aimed for October on vinyl, CD, and digital!
This album was originally released in very limited quantities on CD-R in a handcrafted custom paper sleeve. I'm looking forward to getting a test lathe cut vinyl record in September and if everything sounds right, it'll be all cleared for takeoff in October!
2025.07.22 — I'm updating the Braincase Collective web presence, first by bringing together a central catalog of projects released between 1993 into the 2020s and by finding archived instances of previous websites dating back to the late 90s. I'm also researching mastering for vinyl lathe cuts, for an upcoming series of both remastered reissues as well as new releases. Also looking into a few other surprises. Just putting together this site is a pretty big project, so expect it to be added to little by little and I hope you'll check back once in a while.
